Our honest verdict
Both are long-established, heavily audited providers — the real difference is price and hardware. NordVPN is consistently the cheaper of the two on long-term plans and covers noticeably more countries (135+ vs. 113). ExpressVPN costs more, but it’s the only major provider selling a dedicated, pre-configured router (Aircove) rather than requiring manual DD-WRT/Tomato-style setup, which matters if router-level, whole-network coverage is specifically what you’re after (see our router-level VPNs guide). For most individual users prioritising value and server breadth, NordVPN is the stronger default. If a plug-and-play router is the actual point, ExpressVPN’s premium is arguably worth paying for.
